Rien Baan becomes Vice President of the SCTE

LONDON, 1 NOVEMBER 2020: Rien Baan, SCTE Benelux Group Secretary since its inauguration in 2003 at IBC, was voted in as Vice President of the SCTE, Society for Broadband Professionals, at its virtual Executive Meeting on 28 October 2020. He will resign from his current post as Secretary of the Benelux Group on 1 November 2020.

Rien BaanRien joined the SCTE Benelux Group in 2003 as acting secretary for the new group chaired by Aart Verbree, MD of the cable operator CAIW. The inaugural Benelux lecture meeting attracted close to 100 attendees, with speakers from Daphne, Narad, Scientific Atlanta, Tratec BV and Teleste Corporation.

These lectures continued with SCTE Benelux Spring and Summer meetings, offering SCTE members and guests easy access to presentations as well as an opportunity to meet in what was considered a satellite office for the SCTE in the Benelux region.

In 2015, a Benelux version of the SCTE Gala Awards Dinner was introduced and the Benelux Annual Gala dinner soon became an annual fixture. This new concept, with the same formal dress code, was conceived as a special event for the 60 attendees/members who, for the first time, were also able to bring their partners to an SCTE Benelux event.

Anthony Basham, SCTE President, said, “Rien has been an integral part of the success of the SCTE Benelux Group and we have been very fortunate to work with him over the years, supporting the growth of our first overseas office. We are very grateful for his commitment to the SCTE over the last 17 years and look forward to welcoming Rien as Vice President of the Society. Congratulations, Rien!”

Rien Baan will also sit on the SCTE’s conference and marketing committees.
